Asda Mobile: cheapest UK calls and texts charges

Published by scribbler under Uncategorized Edit This

So far Asda mobile sim is the best one I have seen. Today my husband got a brochure from Asda showing the best yet sms and call charges. UK calls for only 8p and texts for only 4p and the simcard costs only 50p.

A couple of weeks ago I wanted to buy a new simcard but I wanted to get the best deal. I used to have O2 which was good for sending texts abroad because it cost only 10p but local texts cost 12p. I also have an Orange sim which is cheaper for sending texts locally as it costs only 10p but international texts cost 20p. So I couldn’t dispatch one or the other. I had to have them both. But it’s annoying because then I always had to carry two phones whenever I’m going out.  Actually I used to carry 3, the third one is for my Philippine roaming sim. I had to carry it with me because my mother was always anxious to hear from me. If she sent me a text and I didn’t reply within two hours she would start to get worried. But now she has adjusted so I don’t carry the third mobile anymore whenever I leave the house.

Anyway, so I scoured the web pages for a simcard with the best sms deal including phone calls. Then I found Lebara phones which offer cheap international calls and 10p UK and international sms. So I thought it was the best one. When I was about to check out the sim to the counter when I spotted the Tesco sim which offered different privilege, 5p text and 10p/minute call  to your 5 favorite number and if you top up £10 you get another £10 bonus plus clubcard points. So I had to make a quick and wise decision. I picked Tesco. After topping up £10 I did get another £10 bonus within a few minutes. However when I sent text to my mother I got shocked because it cost me 20p and it was deducted from my £10 topup and not from the £10 bonus I got.

From gigabyte to terrabyte

Published by scribbler under Uncategorized Edit This

During the middle of this year www.hitachigst.com has announced the end of the gigabyte era.  That means we are now talking in terms of terabytes. It’s just getting better. With the amounts of videos we can download in our computer, there will be no more problems in memory shortage. That means new laptops will not need to have additional memories or upgrade anymore.

China has the biggest number of surfers

Other auction sites

Although lots of people are earning from ebay but for small time auctioneers the fees could be too much especially if the listing doesn’t get sold.

Well, I have found other auction sites that are rather more friendly than ebay especially for small time auctioneers.

Gumtree: Gumtree is like a one-stop site for everything from rooms to jobs to dating. It’s more of an online community where people can either buy, sell or swap things.

Swoopo.com: If you sign up they give you a £10 welcome bonus and biddings go up by a penny to 7 pence. Timer runs between 10-20 minutes and if you cannot be online to bid you can set up your accunt to bid for you. You can also bid by phone which cost 50p per call and the items are delivered and as I understand they are not sent by post. So you pay for the delivery.

There are some more like lowestbideurope.co.uk, ebid.net, and uk.madbid.com

And there’s also a localized online shop called cheapcycle which is a yahoo group and listing is absolutely free and since it’s a localized groupings it’s easy to contact the seller.

callingnow.co.uk

Published by scribbler under Website Review Edit This

I heard about this site from my friend and she told me that they offer the cheapest calling cards to the Philippines. You set up an account with a debit or credit card and then you don’t have to enter your payment details again the next time you buy a card. Cards are worth £3-£5 each and how much time to call a Philippine mobile number or a landline. Usually you get more airtime to call a landline. The more card you purchase the more savings you get. A card expires 30-90 days after the first usage. This is an awesome site that created especially to serve Filipinos in the UK. They are also tied up with Globe and Smart networks and you can top up your roaming Philippine sim online.

My rating for this site is 5/5

MS Word built-in Thesaurus

Published by scribbler under Uncategorized Edit This

Stuck with a word and can’t think of a better one to substitute it? You don’t need to reach out for your dictionary or go to an online dictionary to find a synonym for you. Type in the word you have chosen, highlight it and press Shift + F7. A box will appear with the synonyms and antonyms of the word you have selected. You can then hover your mouse over and double-click to replace the word or click on the “Replace” button.

This is useful especially for bloggers like me who are always groping for words. That is why I always type my blog in the Word document first to make sure the spellings are correct and also I can substitute words to make it sound elegant–even just a little bit.

How to make screenshot from your computer

Published by scribbler under Uncategorized Edit This

Do you know the purpose of this key in your keyboard? It’s a very helpful thing if you do. It takes a screenshot of what’s showing on your monitor and allows you to copy photos that are right-click disabled.

Suppose you want to include an image of a website on your powerpoint presentation and the lecture room you are going to use doesn’t have online connection then you can take a screenshot. Also if you are watching a movie online and you wantto capture that favorite moment then use this button.

Okay, here’s how to do it.

  • press the  button
  • Open Paint and press Ctrl+V to paste the image
  • Select the part you want to save
  • Save as JPEG format
  • Share your file or whatever you wish

Have you got some photos saved in your computer? Sometimes they can be duplicated and if there are fifty of them then it’s a waste of memory. But we could be unaware of this. Well, www.visipics.info is the right tool for you.

Visipics is a free program that will search your computer for duplicate images and it supports all formats. So if you have an image that is saved as JPEG and bitmap, Visipics will show them both and will let you choose which ones to delete. Also if there are edited photos, Visipics will detect them and will also allow you to autoselect to save the one with a higher resolution.

I have found two websites where you can create your own banner for free. One is www.bannerbreak.com and www.mybannermaker.com. Bannerbreak hosts plenty of ready-made banners where you can put your own text but they are the small ones 475×70. But if you want a banner header mybannermaker is the the one. It allows you to use your own image for originality.

Nowadays everybody has got a webpage of his/her own. From the newborn baby to the mighty men of old, a website is created for them whether to announce their birth or to acknowledge their works.

Unlike before, now websites comes with free layouts that we can choose from. But wouldn’t it be nicer if we can have our personalized banner? One that we can call our original creation? Then try these two amazing free banner makers.

How to print economically

Published by scribbler under computer tips Edit This

Do you want to save ink and help mother Earth preserve nature?

Follow these simple steps:

Firstly, if you are printing a document for yourself use the font Courier. All other fonts use more ink. But if you are saving paper use Arial Narrow or use both sides of the paper.

Secondly, you print a document don’t click on the print icon. Instead click Ctrl+P and it will give you a print dialog box like this:

Click on Properties and it will give another print dialog box

Go to Quality Settings and click on the circle next to Draft.

Click OK

This is just a simple way of saving energy, ink, and most of all reducing waste.

Please share this to others and let’s work hand in hand in saving our Mother Earth. Every little thing will accumulate to something big. You can make a difference.
