www.Sophos.com: our web defense

Everytime I receive my copy of Webuser magazine I always find update on new malwares that are preying on unaware victims. They are being caught or detected by Sophos. According to Wikipedia, Sophos is a developer and vendor of security software and hardware, including anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam and Network Access Control for desktops, servers, email systems and other network gateways .

Sophos is a must have software to guard your PC. They offer a free download of Sophos Anti-Rootkit that detects and removes hidden computer virus in your system.
A lot of people fall prey to chain letters containing somewhat helpful information but they could contain malicious link that when clicked will install a Trojan horse in the computer system. You may find the following links useful.

The internet is overloading

Published by scribbler under Internet News Edit This

I gathered this news a couple of months ago and a few weeks ago I wrote a blog about a similar issue about IP addresses getting exhausted predictably by 2010. As if that was not enough, this year we have encountered another internet warning. I believe this is another important issue that everyone of us should know. The internet is fast approaching storage limit and with the current bandwith we got they also predict that by 2010 the internet will have reached its limit.

Long before computers became ubiquitous and internet available to almost every citizen of this planet, I considered myself very lucky to be the first among my friends to use emails although I had only a couple of contacts. As the years progressed, internet allowed us to save our files, photos, videos among other things online. I thought that the internet had a virtually limitless storage capacity. I remember trying to figure out where all those online data were being stored and kept. I even thought that they were kept in a virtual memory in space and I told myself that they will never get lost nor trampled, burned or damaged unlike data that are recorded on a sheet of paper. Such ignorant idea!

Anyway, many years later I came to know more and understand about internet technology.

So, what’s making the storage full? According to the news I gathered, hundreds of videos are being uploaded online every minute. The demand  to watch TV programs online is also a major contributor to the storage overflow.

What has to be done? Obviously internet providers need more routers or servers with colossal memory storage to accommodate large if not humongous size of video downloads. Well, I don’t know really but I believe that those who are in the internet business will not allow the industry to collapse. I suppose they are already addressing the problem now.

Synthasite: Make your own website for FREE

Published by scribbler under Internet News Edit This

Yes, you heard it right, www.synthasite.com offers a free hosting and website building facility. You can build your website and host it to another site if you wish and the best thing is that even if you are using the site as host you get unlimited pages. Or you can use your custom domain and host it from synthasite for free. On top of that you can put your own google adsense code.

I have tried to build my own website from synthasite but since I have limited knowledge on html I can’t seem to finish it. They have currently 36 styles to choose from and each style has got a couple of different color combinations. Example if you choose a flower theme the default is green there are other colors like pink and gray for you to choose from.

You can drag and drop tools and features you want to include in your site. It’s too simple I think but I haven’t really gotten enough time to finish my website there. It’s really worth a try.

Google Chrome: The new web browser

Published by scribbler under Internet News Edit This

I was surprised but I shouldn’t really. Google has come up with their own web browser called Chrome.  As soon as I read the article from Webuser I downloaded it right  so I could try it. Downloading it was a breeze and so far their icon is the best one for me.

What I like about Chrome browser is that it’s simple and there are no addons and toolbars that crowd the top window. You’re practically viewing a web in full screen.

Like Firefox, it also offers to save password. It also allows tab browsing and it’s fast considering that Google has a huge server. This article is composed using the  Chrome  browser and I’m so impressed.

When you open the browser it will show you your mostrecent visited websites in thumbnails. So it’s really cool. Kudos to Google!
