The internet is overloading
I gathered this news a couple of months ago and a few weeks ago I wrote a blog about a similar issue about IP addresses getting exhausted predictably by 2010. As if that was not enough, this year we have encountered another internet warning. I believe this is another important issue that everyone of us should know. The internet is fast approaching storage limit and with the current bandwith we got they also predict that by 2010 the internet will have reached its limit.
Long before computers became ubiquitous and internet available to almost every citizen of this planet, I considered myself very lucky to be the first among my friends to use emails although I had only a couple of contacts. As the years progressed, internet allowed us to save our files, photos, videos among other things online. I thought that the internet had a virtually limitless storage capacity. I remember trying to figure out where all those online data were being stored and kept. I even thought that they were kept in a virtual memory in space and I told myself that they will never get lost nor trampled, burned or damaged unlike data that are recorded on a sheet of paper. Such ignorant idea!
Anyway, many years later I came to know more and understand about internet technology.
So, what’s making the storage full? According to the news I gathered, hundreds of videos are being uploaded online every minute. The demand to watch TV programs online is also a major contributor to the storage overflow.
What has to be done? Obviously internet providers need more routers or servers with colossal memory storage to accommodate large if not humongous size of video downloads. Well, I don’t know really but I believe that those who are in the internet business will not allow the industry to collapse. I suppose they are already addressing the problem now.

Interesting article. I don’t think more hardware is the answer, it will increase costs for ISPs (and internet users) and only lead to even more wasteful internet use. Video is not the only factor using a lot of bandwidth and storage space, it is also consumed through the download of bloated, inefficient programs and web pages with outrageously large download sizes (like 144k + graphics for Yahoo.com). Much electricity is being used to run all of the servers retrieving these massive files as well. I think it’s time for web sites to become more efficient like they used to be, and to scrap the completely unnecessary idea of watching entire movies over the internet.
Hi Zachary, thanks for your comment. Internet is becoming available for everything now like watching movies, online conferencing, video conferences, businesses and many things. The reason why I love gmail is because it’s very simple and void of those graphical ads that requires a fast internet speed connection like MSN and Yahoo.
